About the Wareham Library Foundation
The Wareham Library Foundation Inc. is a non-profit, charitable corporation formed in 2007 to raise and invest funds to support our public library in Wareham. The Foundation maintains a strong tradition of community philanthropic support, which dates back to the turn of the 20th century, when local citizens first established the Wareham Free Library.
Since its inception just several years ago, The Foundation has contributed over $150,000 to the Wareham Free Library. These funds support the purchase of books, equipment and programming that provides a wide range of educational and cultural opportunities to enrich the lives of Wareham residents of all ages. The Foundation's contributions have been critical at a time when public libraries everywhere are facing significant budget cuts.
The Wareham Library Foundation provides the most protected vehicle for making donations to the library. The tax exempt status allows the maximum amount of an individual tax deduction. Library foundations have become increasingly recognized as the best way to channel funds for the benefit of public libraries and many public libraries here on the South Coast benefit each year from the support of their library foundations.
